The care and compassion they have shown to Michele and her family has been way more than we could have expected. Michele hated being in hospital. If ever she was forced to stay in overnight, she would be determined to discharge herself as soon as she could even going against her Doctors advice more than once. The fact that when we could no longer manage at home, she asked to be admitted and was happy to go to St John's speaks volumes. During the two weeks Michele was a patient there, we were able to make sure that she was never alone, with Wendy and I sleeping alternate nights in a bed in her room. Friends and family were able to visit pretty much around the clock. When Michele and I enquired into the possibility of getting married, the staff not only made it happen the same day, but created a magical miracle day in the space of a couple of hours. They sourced a wedding dress, Two suits, for the best man and Alex, Michele's son, made a wedding cake and provided many other little touches that went far,far beyond their duty. Our amazing family and friends also pulled out all the stops. The paliative care hub, a 1 call service to support cancer patients and those caring for them also operates from the site. They provide 24 hour assistance or advice and have proved invaluable as we have had to call them many, many times.
